The Story

Two Timelines.
One Cursed Manor.

Bennett Manor has stood at the edge of the woods for decades. A monument. An urban legend. A ghost story.

1979

Zara Bennett

Eleven Years Old · Bennett Manor

Bennett Manor is the only home eleven-year-old Zara has ever known. The woods behind the property have a legend — a witch said to live somewhere past the tree line. Zara has always believed it. She has always stayed away. But the manor has secrets that don't stay buried, and some questions find you whether you go looking or not.

Zara watched as the eerily waving limbs of trees brushed back and forth, waving at her, welcoming her.

Zara & Tommy

Adult Zara · Four-Year-Old Son

Broken by grief after her husband's death, Zara returns with her son Tommy. Her aunt Mary-Ro, though grateful for Zara's return, feels a growing sense of apprehension—will those curses also return? The woods are waiting. They always are.

Zara always told him that if he was scared, to close his eyes tight and picture something beautiful—a sunflower over a tall picket fence, a small bird singing on a tree branch.

Both timelines converge on the same question — what actually lives in the Bennett Woods, and what does it want with this family?

The Setting

Bennett Manor,
Rural Indiana

The Manor

Bennett Manor

A house that has stood at the edge of the woods for generations.

The Woods

The Bennett Woods

Dense. Old. Patient. The woods behind the manor don't need to chase anyone. They've learned that the people who matter always come back on their own.

The Legend

The Witch

For as unnerving as that old Bennett manor and those woods were, there was at least one other legend that the small town was infamous for. The best known was her. Many people didn't speak her name. Still don't. Not because of some silly nursery rhyme you'd say in front of a mirror at night. Mostly, it was because of her history—what she had done. But, that's why they're called stories; and most stories called her witch.

The Novel

Something Has Been
Waiting For Her

"Some things that live in the woods don't have names. They don't need them."

A dual-timeline psychological horror novel for readers who loved The Haunting of Hill House, The Whisper Man, or The Last House on Needless Street.

"She hadn't been back to the manor in over a decade. The woods looked exactly the same. She had the feeling they always would."

— Me and My Shadows

A child who will stay with you long after you finish. An ending that reframes everything that came before it.
